The concept behind the logo was to create a symbol of both Japanese culture and of the history and significance of the Olympic games. The over all design is inspired by the imperial chrysanthemum seal. Each of the "pedals" represent the 14 countries that participated in the first modern Olympic games. The movement created by the circular orientation and the directionality of the "pedals" signifies the unity and camaraderie that is made by the Olympics.
